History

The first annual Central Illinois District Day at the Ballpark was Saturday, October 2, 1999. Since then, the congregations of the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod have gathered once per year to witness the historic rivalry between the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals unfold. On September 16, 2000, the Concordia Seminary Chorus sang the National Anthem before the 2nd Annual CID Day. The ceremonial first pitch was thrown out by Merrol Feickert, daughter of Pr. Rollie Feickert, at the 3rd Annual CID Day on May 12, 2001. Pr. Feickert purchased that priviledge for his daughter at the charity auction for the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont. Lutheran High in Springfield was the beneficiary of a donation of CID Day 2002, when successful bidders joined District Staff in a Cardinal Party Suite. July 27, 2002 also saw CID members Cinda Held, Lisa Rincker, and Pastor Michael Mohr lead the Stadium in the singing of "God Bless America" before the start of the game. The Seminary Chorus continued to represent us, reprising the National Anthem at the 6th CID Day, July 10, 2004 and singing "God Bless America" for the 7th (September 5, 2005), 8th (August 26, 2006) and 9th (September 15, 2007) CID Days. A choir from Peoria Area churches represented the District by singing God Bless America at the 10th Annual CID Day on July 4, 2008. CID Day 2009 was enjoyed by over 900 on September 19. More than 1000 Lutherans enjoyed a toasty afternoon in the Right Field Terrace Box seats at the 12th Annual CID Day on August 14, 2010. We returned to our shady Left Field Pavilion for the 13th Annual CID Day on July 30, 2011. The Cubs hold a one game advantage in their record for CID Days, edging the Cardinals 7 games to 6.
